Battle of Fort Wagner (About)

The Second Battle of Fort Wagner took place on July 18, 1863, during the
American Civil War. Attacking Fort Wagner on Morris Island, SC, Union troops
were led by the 54th Massachusetts, an unit of black troops. The Union assault
on Fort Wagner was repulsed with heavy losses.
