General George H. Thomas (About)

General George H. Thomas was a noted Union commander of Southern birth. Seeing
service in the Mexican-American War, Thomas elected to remain in the Union
Army at the outbreak of the Civil War. A methodical, steady leader, he played
a key role at the Battle of Chickamauga and during the final campaigns in the
West.
